Life as I know it.

I haven't blogged since I had the class in May but I feel as though I might need to.

I tend to never shut up or be able to turn my brain off.

As most of my readers know (if you still are reading) I moved out in April for the first time. A lot of things are totally different than I expected them to be.  I love it 98% of the time.  When I first moved out I missed my family and the convenience of living down the street from my friends.  It's amazing how those friendships change after you move a whopping 30 minutes away.  I have figured out a lot about myself and others in the past 5 months. I dated and lost my best guy friend of 9 years for a random girl he met in DC, I have realized that my mom is truly my best friend, I have dated a couple of guys that have totally wasted my time, became close with my roommate and have a job that I love.

It's all bittersweet but I feel like life is usually like that for me.

I haven't quite found my way yet but I'm getting there slowly but surely. All I want for my future is to become a better version of myself.

Personal.

I have been in a mood for a long time now.  Not a good mood one either.  I find myself crying.  A lot.  I try to embrace change but I'll be the first to admit that I am horrible at accepting it.  If you have read past post then you would know that I recently moved to Edmond from Moore.  I was excited but now it has turned more sad.  I miss my family, I feel alone and my cat hates me.  I have an amazing roommate but that doesn't fill the void when it comes to missing someone.  I know it will get better but I can only wish that that time comes quicker.

In the past week I became single, found out scary medical news about my 8 year old cousin and learned more about my moms current medical conditions (she has 3 issues going on now).

It's tough to be optimistic sometimes but at least I have cable and internet now.

After getting that out I feel much better, Pinterest helped too.

Dead Week?

I must say that this semester has blown by. I haven't decided if that's a good thing or not though. Sometimes I feel like our generation doesn't live life to the fullest.  We live to dates and not day to day. It's good to look towards the future but you must also live in the present.  This is something that I have always struggled with and I am trying to let that go.  It's a tough one for sure.

I found out some great news today too. With Public Relations and Advertising combining it has helped me to keep both successfully! Instead of having to take both capstone classes I get to substitute a class for my Ad minor. Is it sad that news like this makes my day??

Anyways good luck everyone with projects and studying for finals!

Smile at everyone you encounter today it may change their entire day. :)

Country Music.

Country music pretty much consumes me and I love it so much!  Miranda Lambert is by far my favorite and recent events have led me to this song.  It's amazing check it out. :)

Bloggity Blog Blog

Almost everyone in the class has presented the blogs that they followed.  I think that everyone chose some great blogs and all of them were really interesting. My favorite blogs to hear about were the photography blogs because they were very visually stimulating.

On a side note I secretly love the new Justin Bieber song....

Judge away.

Furniture!

I decided that when I moved out I was going to take my old dresser that has been in the garage for longer than I want to admit.  It was too big to fit in my last room because I have too much crap.  After pondering what I was going to do about my bedroom furniture for the new house, I figured heck why not redo all of it?

I wasn't able to take pics of the process because I was a little messy.  It was easy though but kind of time consuming.  It took me all day Saturday basically.
  • The first thing you do is sand your furniture down. (With a sander or by hand.)
  • I chose to use primer (2 layers) as my undercoat to save a step but you can choose whichever color you want.
  • After letting the spray paint dry for an hour I chose black to be my top coat (2 layers).
  • Another hour (or less) I put 2 flat clear coats on over the black.
  • Finally I got to distress the dresser by using sandpaper (60).
It was a fun project and I did my nightstand and TV stand the same way on Sunday!

Good little worker bee.

The past two weeks have been absolute madness but I almost like it that way.  Last week was the infamous Live Central Week which meant that I was at school working more than I was home. When I did make it home I was packing to move into a house in Edmond! I started moving my things on Friday after a long day of work and ended up staying the night in the empty house with my roomie.  The following day we started painting the ceilings. I discovered that painting the ceilings is one of my least favorite things to do!  I have been packing all week and slowly moving my things everyday.

Needless to say I am exhausted.  Good news though is that my bf is coming home tonight for a week! I'll give some back story in case you are curious. We have been really good friends for 9 years and we dated back in October when he was back for a month on leave, he's in the Marines, and long story short it did not work.  We talked a lot and decided that we did not want to be with anyone else so we got back together.  I'm pretty excited for the next week!

(Yes, my title is a Motion City Soundtrack reference.)

Almost Forgot...

Today was a crazy busy day for me and I almost forgot to post an old picture. I decided that when I post an old one I will post the most recent one as well. (If I have one that is.)

I wanted to post this to show how cute my little brother use to be. Ok just kidding I still think he's adorable. I was 15 and he was 4 in the first one and the second one was on Christmas Day of 2011 making me 21 and him 10. It's insane how different we both look and how big he is!

Finally!

It seems as though everything that I was worried about is falling into place. My future roommate finds out on Friday if all the things with the house (she's buying) are official! If everything goes as planned we get to move in as early as next week.  That's really exciting except that I have not started packing yet.  I may be a little bit of a procrastinator...

Also, this week is super busy with my internship.  It is Live Central Week for Housing and my boss is away for a conference in Colorado.  That means that I have been somewhat in charge on Monday and today.  It's a bittersweet feeling.

Spring Break for me consisted of working and being lazy. I did nothing fun besides getting to see my best friend and she is moving back from Texas in a couple weeks which adds to my excitement of April.

The blog I am following is...

The blog that I am following this semester is Baggage Reclaim.  I found this blog randomly one day and decided that it was pretty interesting and insightful too.  Natalie (writer) is good at getting down to the nitty gritty about relationship dilemmas which why I enjoy reading her blog.

So much to do!

Spring has sprung and I have so much going on! I have a tendency of stressing myself out of little things too so the next month or so will be interesting.

The most exciting thing that is happening is that I am moving out of my parents! I can't wait to move to Edmond and start a new job.  I actually have an interview today at a bank. (wish me luck!) I will be moving into a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath house with a dear friend.  We plan on moving by mid April and I have not even started packing because working 6 days a week doesn't really allow you much time. So, I put my two week in for my weekend job on Saturday.  Now I will have time but less money....good and bad I guess.

So far my plans seem to be falling into place.

My list of things to do.
  • Pack
  • Shop for the new place
  • Get a new job
  • Enroll (I always dread this)
  • Move

Besties.

This is from my sophomore year of high school, GO JAGS!  I like to call this my awkward stage.  I like to think that I have somewhat grown out of it.  The bottom pic is from New Years Eve, it is crazy to see how much we have both changed!

Oklahoma Wind.

On Thursday I decided to get my car washed. Good idea one would think.  I was wearing a dress but still decided to vacuum out my car.  That was dumb on my part I was so focused on not showing anything to all the people at the car wash I was not paying attention.

All of a sudden the front of my dress got sucked into the vacuum. Yep, that means that it went down to my stomach (strapless), thankfully I was wearing a cardigan over it.  Otherwise everyone would have gotten a more obvious show.  I scurried to pull my dress up and decided that my car was clean enough.

Needless to say I was a little embarrassed.

Today I'm wearing a dress again. I have horrible timing.

Does anyone else have embarrassing stories to share?

I am not really sure how I was here but I do know that I was rockin' those shades with Mickey!

Interesting Insight.

Today in my blogging class we had a guest speaker Dave Rhea (follow him) and he discussed a whole slur of things.  For example, he was in a band, went to University of Florida, did some interesting videos for SBTV and now is working for The Journal Record

The most important thing that I got from the whole class was his advice to us as students for our future careers.

"Love learning."

Yes, I am aware that it is only two words and very simple.  It's also very applicable though.  A lot of people think that once they have a career that things are set in stone.  That is far from the truth if you plan on being in Public Relations, Broadcasting, Advertising, Journalism or anything else involving the media.

Media is changing and you have to embrace it or choose another career field.  Blunt but true.

Book Nerd.

This year my New Year's resolution was to read all of Nicholas Sparks' books.  I had already read 4 but I decided that I wanted to start reading more for pleasure.  As of last night I am on book 9.  I find reading to be very soothing and a small escape from the everyday stresses of life.

Anyways.

My favorite book so far of his has to be True Believer or The Lucky One.  I like them both for two totally different reason.  True Believer was great because the main character was a Journalist and found his passion after finding his soul mate. (cheesy I know) The Lucky One is about a Marine that finds a picture of a woman while in Iraq and she becomes his good luck charm.  After his tour is finished he sets out to find her and does.  I like that one because one of my best friends is a Marine and it was interesting to think that men in the military might actually have good luck charms.

After staying up for the past couple nights just to read I discover two things.
1. I am a book nerd.
2. I am all right with it.

Have you all read any good books lately?

Way Back Wednesday.

I'm gonna start posting older pics of myself and whoever I decide upon every Wednesday.

Enjoy! This is a pic of me and my cousins (Amanda and Jeremy).  I was about 8 years old.

Loss

February 15 at around 8:30 p.m. my Great Aunt Maxine passed away at 55 years old.  She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis over 12 years ago and fought every day after that.  The past 8 years or so she has slowly lost who she was.  By the end she wasn't able to walk and barely able to function most of her body.

She was strong throughout the whole disease though.  Every time anyone visited her she had a huge smile on her face and wanted to hear about what was going on in your life.  Now that I think about it I never once heard from any of my family say that she complained.  I know that if it were me I probably would have been complaining a lot.

On Sunday,  my Mema called me and told me that my aunt had taken a turn for the worse and asked if someone could come get my little brother.  She needed to go to the hospital to see her sister.  I couldn't blame her at all so even though I had plans I knew that I had to delay them.  I decided that after the wedding reception I was about to go to that I was going to suck it up and go see my aunt.  I had put off seeing her because I wanted to remember her the way I saw her last.  She was talking and telling jokes.  At this point she was sleeping and did until she passed.  I knew I wanted to say goodbye and didn't know what to expect.  I will never get the image out of my mind but I will also never forget the good memories of her either.

Wednesday the doctors told us that she had 24 hours left.  I went with my Mema (even though she had basically lived there since Sunday) to be her support to see my aunt for the last time.  It was hard but I am glad that I got to say goodbye to such a strong woman.

The funeral is Monday or Tuesday but I like to think of it as a celebration of her life and not the mourning of her death.

Grammy's

The Grammy's were pretty interesting this year to say the least.  There were interesting performances and not the prettiest fashion statements.

The Red Carpet is always my favorite.  I love seeing the good, the bad and definitely the ugly.

My favorite dress of the night was Carrie Underwood's it was simple, elegant and I loved the low back with the strap to add dimension.  I had to show how scrumptious Blake Shelton looked as well. :)

The least favorite attire for me was from Bonnie McKee.  She isn't well known but I fell in love with one of her songs a few years back so seeing her in this outfit was disappointing. Yes, those are tassels that look like long armpit hair.  I also couldn't help but notice how high the slit was on Adam Levine's gf, Anne Vyalitsyna.  I don't care if you are a Victoria's Secret model put some clothes on and be classy not trashy for an awards ceremony!

A lot of the performers did really well on Sunday with a couple exceptions. My favorite of the night was Katy Perry's ET/Part of Me.  It was obviously directed towards her recent split from Russell Brand and that made me smile.  I feel like it was time for her to speak out about it and to do it musically is the best way.  Also, releasing it at the Grammy's was the best move she could've made in my opinion! (Blue hair maybe not the most appealing decision.)  The worst performance was way easier to pick for me.  Nicki Minaj.  She's always been a bit strange but this was pushing the limits.  It blew my mind in a bad way.  Even the look on her face makes her look crazy! ;)

Since it's Valentine's Day, I guess I'll post what I got from my Valentine.  He left for Georgia for 3 weeks a little over a week ago. (Air Force) He sent me white chocolate covered strawberries, such a sweetheart, I know!

Guest Speaker

Today in Blogging for Journalist we had a guest speaker, Kurt Hochenauer.  He is the writer of a liberal blog called Okie Funk.

I found it really interesting to hear about the beginning of his blog, how often he post and about some of the back lash he has encountered.

I like knowing that he post honestly and doesn't mind hearing what others have to say/complain about his opinion.  A lot of people write about the things that are driven by anger but his tend to be honest and not just a rand about what is going on.  It is refreshing to read intelligent opinion about our government.

Knowing that Doc Hoc does not include ads because he does it out of enjoyment instead of for money is great to hear. He also spoke about how tags are a good thing and actually showed us the impact they can make as well.

All in all it was very informative!

Celebrating getting older.

Over the weekend I helped a dear friend celebrate turning 21.

We started out eating dinner at Red Pin.  I ordered a build your own: pepperoni and black olive pizza.  It was delicious but I wish that the waiter would have told me that it was enough for 2.  Afterwards we bowled for an hour.  I looked pretty stylish in my skirt with bowling shoes. Ok, maybe not but it's about having fun not matching!

Rokbar was our next adventure while downtown.  None of us had ever been there but it was free so we decided to check it out.  It was full of men so we decided to not stick around for that long.  Being stared at like a piece of meat is not our cup of tea. :)

Eventually we ended up at City Walk, where a few of my friends work.  It was very entertaining to say the least.  I saw a lot of people that I knew resulting in birthday drinks for Brittany!  All in all it was a great night for everyone.

I read this in class today and figured I would share something inspiring as well.

Songs are the best.

Almost every song I hear reminds me of someone I know.  That can be a good thing or bad depending on the day.

I was listening to Jake FM and this song struck me.  As I get older it becomes more apparent who my true friends are.  They may not be perfect but I know that they have my back.  They are the ones that call or text just to say hello and not because they need something.  I think we all have those "friends" and you are probably thinking of which ones those are right now.  I apologize but I say love them anyway.

Watermark Shirts

Things you will need:

  • Blue Gel Glue (Elmer's or knock off)
  • White t-shirt
  • Dye any color of your choice (Wal-mart or Hobby Lobby)
Step One:
Dampen your white shirt with cool water and place between a plastic bin lid or cardboard. (We used old chalk boards.) After doing that write or draw the design on your shirt with the Blue Gel Glue.

Step two:
Let glue dry overnight.

Step three:
Place the shirt in sink with pre mixed dye or if using tye dye make the pattern you would like and soak.  This step really just depends on the dye that you use. Follow the instructions on the packaging for best results!  After the shirt is dyed let the shirts dry so that the dye can fully soak in.  The lettering will not be clear but don't get discouraged!

Step four:
Now that the shirts are dry it is time to put them in cold water for 15 minutes.  This will get the excess dye out of the shirt and the rest of the glue to loosen/come off. No one wants unwanted shirts dyed. ;)

Step five:
The shirt is ready to be washed and dried then worn!

My final shirt!                                                                      Jessica's final shirt!

The watermark shirts were pretty easy to make and fun to do.  These were our test shirts so now we know how to make them in the near future!

How to improve my blog!

After reading an article by Marko Saric I found a few ways to make my blog better.

  • I need to be more focused when writing a post, make it about things that are related.  If, they do not relate then I can just post later or as a separate one.
  • I should also start using links to improve credibility on whatever the subject is I am talking about.
  • I am also going to try and include at least one picture in each post to help grab more attention to the readers.
  • Another possibility to improve my blog would be to promote my blog to people outside of the class.  Instead of just using it for a class I want to continue to use it after May as well.

Saric article was very informative and simple.  It was easy to scroll through and pick out things that specifically grabbed my attention to improve this blog.  Instead of bullet points they used numbers which I liked as well.  That made it easy to read.

Go read this to improve yours too!

Dating.

I must start out by saying that I do not enjoy dating.  We all have to suck it up and do it unless we want to be a lonely cat lady/man.  That's besides the point though.

I use to be the relationship type, I always had a boyfriend and it became emotionally exhausting after awhile.  I discovered that maybe I might want to get to know myself before getting to know another.  This has been an interesting journey for me and at times lonely.  I have learned more about myself in the past year than I could imagine possible.  I finally feel like I am ready to date.  This might sound silly to some but it is pretty hard for me.

Anyways.

What is important to you when looking for a mate?
Looks? Personality? Height? Humor? The list could go on and on. (I actually made one in my Sociology class last semester.)

There is a point to my rant about dating. I promise.

I went on a date with a guy last night that I normally wouldn't have gone out with.  (He's nice for once!) I think that most people seem nice but once you meet them is how you can really gauge who a person is.  It's in the way they hold themselves, speak to you and how they treat others.  I watch all of that and much more on the first date because it is so important.  I like to know that their attention is focused on me and not the plethora of people around us.

If they cannot pay attention to you on the first date then red flags should go up!

"I don't need to flirt, I will seduce you with my awkwardness."

Technorati: State of the Blogosphere

As I was reading through this article I realized that there are a ton of blogs.  I mean, yes I was aware that everyone and their dog blogs.  Reading through and seeing all of the graphs made it a reality to me.  Most people that blog are doing it for themselves or a business.  Whether it is to discuss what is going on in their business or to discuss hot topics they have a reason to post.  Hobbyist are more of a creative aspect of blogs, or that's how I think of it anyways.  Which, is kind of sorta what I plan on making my blog be.

The thing that I learned inevitably is that I want to blog for a reason with something interesting to say.  It makes me want to have people reading my blog because they want to not because they have to.

Important people in my life.

My dad is in love with this little truck and we have no idea why.

My little brother, Michael, he means the world to me.  He's 10 and almost my size!

This is my mom, also my best friend, she doesn't smile in pictures for some reason.

Jessica is my best friend, I tell her everything.

Meghan (left) and Stephanie (right) are two of my craziest friends. In a good way of course. :)

Kendra and I have been through a lot together. I love her dearly.

This is an old photo of Ashley and I but it shows our relationship the best.

This is my favorite picture, so I had to add this one too.

3rd go 'round

Hi, my name is Bonny!  This is my 3rd attempt at a blog, and I plan on actually posting on this one (after class even).  I am not 100% on what I will write about, but hopefully something I write will be relatable/interesting to someone else.  I can make a story out of almost anything, so we will see where this goes!
